What to Expect

Located in Summit County, Sand Run Metro Park has something to offer everyone. Whether you want to take a hike, go for a jog, or play in the snow, there’s something for you here!

The 995-acre metro park opened in 1929, but the land has welcomed visitors for centuries. The Mingo Indians used the area for their campsite, and Portage Path once was an important Native American trail between the Cuyahoga and Tuscarawas rivers, later serving as the western boundary of the United States.

A high ridge above the Wadsworth Area was a lookout point for General Elijah Wadsworth, who made his camp near the present-day Old Portage Area during the War of 1812. Today, Sand Run is one of Summit Metro Park’s “keystone” parks, connecting 1,700 acres of green space from Gorge Metro Park in Cuyahoga Falls to Sand Run Metro Park in Fairlawn.
